Karwendel Nature Park: Nature park of the year 2020
Nature park of the year 2020
The application
Every year, the Association of Nature Parks of Austria (VNÖ) nominates one of currently 46 nature parks as "Nature Park of the Year". The interested nature parks have to fill out a comprehensive questionnaire for the assessment and can also submit a fixed number of pictures and background information such as annual reports, etc. The jury then has its turn.
The Jury
An independent jury of experts consisting of representatives of the Federal Environment Agency, Alpine Pearls, the University of Vienna, the Environmental Education Centre and ORF Carinthia judged the work areas of nature conservation, recreation & tourism, environmental education, regional development and public relations. A maximum of 30 points could be awarded per topic. In total, the Karwendel Nature Park achieved 129 out of a maximum of 150 points.
Voices of the jury:
"Broad environmental education offer and well-organised Junior Ranger programme as well as sustainable measures in regional development."
"The great enthusiasm of the volunteers should be emphasised – this is hard work for the nature park managers."
"Considering its size, the Karwendel Nature Park is characterised by a very balanced coexistence of the four nature park functions".
"Every year, more than 250 nature excursions and lectures with rangers are offered – an absolute highlight!"
