Mobility

A Key Topic for Sustainable Tourism

More than 70% of a holiday’s CO₂ emissions come from travel to and from the destination. Using public transport—both for arrival and departure as well as within the holiday region—offers great potential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and local traffic congestion. Mobility is therefore a key element of the Seefeld region’s sustainability strategy. In summer 2023, a well-coordinated new mobility concept was introduced to optimize transport options.

Mobility Offer Region Seefeld

Throughout the year, multiple bus lines and trains connect all five localities of the region, as well as neighboring towns like Telfs and Mittenwald. In summer and winter, two additional lines serve Wildmoos and the Gaistal, complemented by seasonal ski buses. The high plateau is well-connected with three railway stations—including the world’s highest year-round ICE station—70 bus stops, a combined train and bus terminal at the entrance to Seefeld’s pedestrian zone, and a FlixBus stop in Seefeld.

Both visitors and locals benefit from this service—7 days a week, 365 days a year. The guest card serves as a ticket for all public bus connections in the region during the entire stay, while the booking confirmation is sufficient for the initial journey to the accommodation.

In winter, a valid cross-country ski pass serves as a ticket for all regional bus connections. Additionally, season pass holders can use the railway line between Innsbruck and Scharnitz free of charge throughout the entire cross-country skiing season.

With this excellent infrastructure, along with further initiatives by the tourism association and selected accommodation providers—such as optimized door-to-door luggage transport with a regional partner, collaborations and promotions with various mobility providers, or discounts on room rates for guests arriving by public transport—the region continuously enhances incentives for a car-free holiday.

E-Mobility in the Region Seefeld

The Seefeld Tourism Association switched its company vehicles to electric cars several years ago. In 2024, the event department also transitioned to an all-electric fleet. For the preparation of over 240 kilometers of cross-country ski trails, the latest electric snow groomers are continuously tested and gradually introduced whenever they offer a suitable price-performance ratio.

Various electric buses have already been tested on the region’s bus lines and will be gradually integrated into regular service following thorough evaluation. The complete transition to electric vehicles across all sectors will mark another key milestone in Seefeld’s commitment to sustainable mobility.

Additionally, the Seefeld Tourism Association, together with the plateau’s municipalities and other local stakeholders, is actively working on the continuous expansion of charging stations throughout the region.
