Climbing paradise since 2019
Sonnenplatten Scharnitz
Right in front of the Karwendel mountain range, in Scharnitz, an impressive climbing area has been created, located close to the bypass of Scharnitz. The project was realized in collaboration with Heinz Zak, the municipality of Scharnitz, and the Seefeld Tourist Association.
Heinz Zak, one of Austria's most famous extreme climbers, has renovated the old routes and brought them up to the latest safety standards. In addition, new routes have been established, making a total of 60 routes in the grippy Wetterstein limestone, mostly in moderate difficulty grades (3rd to 7th), ideal for beginners and sport climbers.
A chill-out area with tables, benches, slacklines, and a fountain for refreshing and relaxing has also been created. A high-quality toilet facility and numerous parking spaces nearby complete the “Sonnenplatten Scharnitz” climbing area. Climbing shoes on, harness fastened, chalk ready – and off you go! Find your favorite route in the 3 to 7 difficulty range.
Note: In spring, autumn, and winter, special attention must be paid to alpine hazards such as rockfall, icefall, and avalanches. The approach and climbing are at your own risk.
