FLAGSHIP BUSINESSES OF THE REGION
Plateau Pioneers
The Plateau Pioneers consist of the Seefeld Tourism Association, the Karwendel Nature Park, and eight accommodation providers who have joined forces to work on an ambitious framework for sustainable development in the Seefeld region. The Plateau Pioneers see themselves as trailblazers, catalysts, and driving forces when it comes to significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and advancing projects and measures in ecological and social sustainability.
Direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1–3) are regularly assessed by all Plateau Pioneers through comprehensive analyses. These form the basis for targeted reduction measures with clearly measurable metrics. Through training sessions, workshops, and excursions on various topics (e.g., food and beverage management, circular economy, visits to model businesses), the Plateau Pioneers continuously develop their strategies and optimization plans.

Current Projects of Our Plateau Pioneers

Deadwood Hedge for Biodiversity
Deadwood provides a vital source of life and biodiversity. With this in mind, Plateau Pioneer Markus Daschil collaborated with the fishers of the Kaiser Maximilian Association, led by Sepp Kneissl, to construct a 30-meter-long deadwood hedge on the northern shore of the Wildsee. In spring, it will be extended by an additional 15 meters. The deadwood was sourced from the surrounding shore area and now serves as a nesting and habitat space for local birds, hedgehogs, and insects.

The Book Booth at the Fiaker Stand: A Practical Example of Circular Economy in Public Spaces
Since 2020, the Fiaker stand in Seefeld has been home to a special project by our Plateau Pioneers, Verena and Toni Hiltpolt – the Book Booth. An old telephone booth was transformed and fitted with shelves to serve as a free public book exchange. Under the motto "Take 1, Read 1, Bring 1," the booth is regularly stocked with current literature, games, learning materials, picture books, and guides – all available for free, promoting education, inclusion, and meaningful engagement. The Book Booth is a great example of the circular economy in action: old materials are repurposed, creating a space for knowledge and exchange. This project not only benefits the environment but also strengthens the community and improves access to education.

Environmental Project at Möslalm in the Karwendel Nature Park
In July 2024, twelve young volunteers from Austria, Germany, Ireland, and Spain worked at Möslalm in the Karwendel Nature Park to help preserve the alpine meadows. Under the leadership of our Plateau Pioneer, the Karwendel Nature Park, they contributed valuable efforts as part of the “Alpine Conservation Plan” project. Their work focused on protecting the nearby Samertal pastures from overgrowth and rock formation. Despite changing weather conditions, the participants showed great dedication and teamwork—an inspiring example of active nature conservation and the preservation of valuable habitats!
