WINTER
Walk further
Sometimes one day is not enough. Sometimes it has to be more. During long-distance winter hiking in the Seefeld region, it is not only the body that embarks on a journey, but to an even greater extent the mind. In such a way that you are a different person at the end of the hike than you were before.
It winds through the wide, open Leutasch Valley to the most beautiful spots in the region, from the Leutasch moat to the Wetterstein Hut and back. If you like, extend to the Katzenkopf: The 1st winter long-distance hiking trail in the heart of Tyrol reveals the most magnificent spots of the Seefeld region and winter magic from its most beautiful side.

Real winter magic
Long-distance hiking in Leutasch means walking through untouched landscapes at an altitude of over 1,100 meters above sea level, away from the densely populated Inn Valley, where bustling activity reigns, and into idyllic solitude, which in many places hardly suggests any human influence. That is why the high plateau is an ideal retreat to switch off and find oneself.
Even Friedrich Nietzsche had his Zarathustra visit the mountain to reflect.
"I am a wanderer and a mountaineer, he said to his heart, I do not love the plains and it seems I cannot sit still for long. And what now also comes to me as fate and experience, - a wandering will be in it and a mountain climbing: one finally experiences only oneself", he let his protagonist say there.

It hikes better with light luggage
In fact, this feeling of being thrown back on oneself, which can be experienced excellently when hiking for several days, is an extremely intense feeling that can also be ambivalent at times. A component of this uplifting state is the reflection on the essential, on what one can carry with oneself. The ballast that weighs on the soul becomes lighter in the course of walking, but the actual backpack with the necessary things does not. Therefore, care and restraint should be exercised when packing. The good thing is that the winter long-distance hiking trail is not a self-catering tour, but a pleasure hike. Hearty, traditional hosts enchant visitors and guests with delicious delicacies that make both the taste buds and the emotions dance while impressive panoramic views. So only the bare essentials really need to go in your backpack. (Tip: A packing list is here). If you opt for one of the packages that the Seefeld region has already put together, your own luggage service is even included.

"Well planned is half won"
The long-distance trail takes four days to complete. In the process, you cover around 54 kilometers and 1,300 meters in altitude. That's not nothing. And yet incredibly liberating. As always on the mountain, good planning is essential; the tour is moderately difficult throughout. You don't need snowshoes for this, but at one point or another the use of spikes or shoe chains is recommended. The most important thing is a well thought-out tour planning and you should be able to estimate your own ability well. Especially on the mountain it is essential to be well prepared. You need to know where you are going, how difficult the individual tours and the overall route are, and what the weather will be like. The individual stages are between 9.5 and 16 kilometers long, the pure walking time is between three and a half and six hours. Here it is important to divide the energy well. Especially stage three from Mösern to the Wettersteinhütte is quite challenging. You will be rewarded with a breathtaking night on the mountain. And it is well deserved. After an ascent of 718 meters in altitude, any relaxation is most welcome. Once at the top, it is advisable to pause for a short or even longer moment and enjoy the fantastic alpine panorama. If the weather is right, the view becomes quite wide. They all lie before you and make your heart soar: the Hohe Munde, the mountain worlds of the Tux Alps and the peaks of the Stubai. The hosts Hans and Beate also welcome you with a very special rarity: their blue gentian schnapps. Not only long-distance hikers are catered for, but also all other overnight and, of course, day guests.
