Easily accessible alpine pastures & huts
At the head of the Eppzirler valley stretches an alpine pasture framed by rugged limestone peaks. In the 16th century, valuable Tyrolean stone oil was extracted in the breathtaking natural scenery and even Emperor Maximilian was particularly fond of the hiking area around the Eppzirler Alm. To this day, the active alpine pasture with about 90 head of cattle at 1,459 metres above sea level is a popular destination for hikers and families.
The impressive panoramic view of Erlspitz, Eppzirler Scharte, Kuhjochspitze and Reitherspitze is framed by lush alpine meadows. From the beginning of June to mid-September, innkeeper Christian serves hungry guests Tyrolean delicacies from farm production and delicious refreshments on the sun terrace. Children are also always welcome on the 1100-hectare alpine farm, and a small Maria chapel even awaits hiking pilgrims. By the way: Legend has it that 30 tonnes of Reichsgold were hidden somewhere in the area after the end of the war. No one has found it to this day.
