Winter-trailrunning
This village running loop from Scharnitz to Gießenbach follows the wintery Isar and Gießenbach streams, offering stunning views of the snow-covered landscape. The route is well-suited for both winter and summer runs.
The easy run starts at the Nature Park Info Center in Scharnitz and first follows the Isar promenade. Even in winter, the Isar flows clear and steady through the valley. It’s hard to believe, but this river originates nearby in the Hinterautal near Scharnitz.
After a short while, you reach the Maria Hilf parish church. Here, cross the road and continue along Porta-Claudia-Straße until its end. A bridge crosses the Gießenbach at this point—a great spot for a short pause, as just before the bridge, the Gießenbach flows into the Isar. The route then transitions onto a cleared winter hiking trail that runs alongside the stream.
Next, the path briefly follows a paved road before crossing another bridge. This marks the start of the Gießenbach Valley, where an idyllic winter trail winds along the Gießenbach. Through the trees, glimpses of the snow-covered landscape add to the scenic charm.
Upon reaching Gießenbach, the route leads through the peaceful village before retracing the same path back to Scharnitz.
