With the excavator to the Nordic World Cup 2019
"Hand in Hand - let's celebrate a nordic ski festival" is the motto of the Seefeld region for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 from the very beginning. Being the venue for a world championship for the second time means joy paired with goose bumps, commitment and design, competence and planning, heart and soul, perfectionism and a vision as well as tremendous cohesion. So it's an incredible feeling to be up close to the action.
Full of verve and anticipation, this summer saw the start of the first planned projects for the spectacular major event, the Nordic World Championships 2019. On August 1, excavators weighing tons rolled in for the clearing work: Norwegian cross-country skiing track architect Hermod Bjorkestal is writing a piece of history with a sustainable cross-country skiing track concept tailor-made for Seefeld and at the same time integrating a large part of the tracks that were already used at the 1976 Olympic Games. All according to the FIS regulations and the requirements of 10 m for ascents and flat terrain and 7 m for descents.
Casion Arena - the center of the World Cup 2019
The area around the Casino Arena, the central point of the 2019 Nordic World Ski Championships, is being given a new lease of life: a completely new concept has for the first time created an absolutely unobstructed view of the entire area including the landmark "Seekirchl". For the access road to the Casino Arena, the two old existing tubes (cross-country skiing underpasses) were removed and a new access road was laid in order to make the best possible use of the area for the future stadium and the cross-country skiing trails. The new tunnel allows a direct finish that can be followed from all sides.
Directly on the country road L36 is the second, large construction site. There, work is being carried out on the north-south cross-country ski trail connection above a cross-country ski trail overpass with a newly inserted tunnel for road traffic. The top construction maxim is careful, sustainable use of nature and all resources in the entire high plateau. Already this winter, all cross-country skiing enthusiasts can see for themselves what it means to run on the trails of the future world champions.
Everything on track - reconstruction of Seefeld station
On September 30, the contract for the conversion of the WM Seefeld station was signed. The Seefeld station is a listed building and will therefore not be significantly changed in its outer basic corpus, but will shine in a new look. The plans include renovations, interior restructuring, space for encounters, light-flooded stairways and exits, passenger lifts, canopies, and measures for the walking and visually impaired. The centerpiece will be the new forecourt, which will be a completely car-free zone: Arrive in the middle of the action. The gateway to the Seefeld region will live up to its name and become another highlight for all residents and guests of the region.
